Project X: Series Overview
A satirical guide to the powerful figures shaping our tech-driven future—who they are, what they want, and why we should worry.
Every day we surrender a little more control to digital systems we barely understand. We're not just scrolling; we're slipping into a future built from data we willingly give away.
It starts with a notification that goes unnoticed—an update, a trending hashtag, another tech billionaire casually suggesting they're about to change the world. Nothing shocking. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Until it is.
Inspired by real-world events, Project X: Digital Dystopia is a warning—
—or, rather, it’s many warnings disguised as science fiction.
Through the eyes of your UnReliable Narrator, you'll explore how today's digital trends became tomorrow’s nightmares. What happens when the algorithms that entertain you begin controlling you? When the internet isn’t just a reflection of reality, but reality itself?
Would you even notice?
You didn’t.
But that’s a story for another time….
Some of these unsettling stories are freely accessible, but the most intense, disturbing explorations will be reserved for paid subscribers.
Welcome to Project X.

Meet the Billionaires Behind Our Digital Dystopia
What you’re about to read is a field guide to the people pulling the strings in our hyper-connected, algorithm-driven world. They sell the illusion of progress, of change, of a better future, but really…it’s all about profit.
This Codex is here to show you who’s in charge, what they want, and how they work. Each of these individuals believes they are the hero of their own story, but trust me, they’re anything but.
Read on. The more you know about them, the better prepared you’ll be for the world they’re building.
Caleb "Maverick" Douglas
Former Media Personality, Failed Businessman, and Self-Styled "Savior" of the People
The man who somehow stumbled from one failed business venture to a position of unimaginable power. With a penchant for bankruptcies, Douglas found a new calling in politics. He didn’t need qualifications; he needed an internet connection, and a populist slogan. And that’s exactly what he used to rise to the highest office in the land.
His policy changes started out about as stable as a sandcastle. When it comes to foreign relations? A dumpster fire. When it comes to the economy? A rollercoaster. When it comes to technology and corporate interests manipulating his every move? Let's just say that if there's one thing Douglas is NOT good at, it’s self-awareness.
One thing’s for sure: no matter how much of a disaster he’s been, Douglas has a unique talent for making himself the center of attention. When you're as good at manipulating the media as he is, you don’t need to be competent. You just need to be loud.
Stanley Morrow
Founder of EchoNet, The Man Who Mistook Himself for a Visionary
Stanley Morrow is the insecure kid who somehow tricked his way into the man’s game. His whole schtick? Cozy up to the powerful while pretending he’s more than a puppet on strings.
He’ll do whatever it takes to stay on top, hopping from one power broker to the next, kissing up to whoever can help him extend his grip on the market. Morrow doesn’t care about "humanity" - he cares about being popular with the cool kids.
Morrow fancies himself the great architect of the future, a "visionary" shaping the world with EchoNet, his so-called revolution in connectivity. On paper, it sounds grand: “community,” “meaningful connections,” maybe even some "positive change." But then we got rid of fact checkers, so who knows how much of that is even true. One thing is certain: every click, every scroll, every "connection" made on EchoNet just feeds his empire.
Elliot Yates
Founder of StarNet, Self-Proclaimed Architect of the Digital Future, Political Strategist
Elliot Yates, the self-proclaimed architect of StarNet (though, whether or not he has actually invented anything is up for debate), has convinced the world that he’s the only one capable of telling the truth. According to him, the masses can’t be trusted with raw, unfiltered information, so he’s stepped in to shape it for us.
As StarNet grew, so did his political reach. His platform’s grip on the flow of information has made him an unspoken power broker in political circles. Rather than engaging in the political arena directly, Yates pulls the strings from behind the scenes, supporting candidates who align with his vision and using his platform to push a carefully crafted message.
While he hides behind the guise of digital progressivism and political neutrality, his aim is simple: control the message, control the people.
Jared West
Founder of WestTek Investments, Innovator with a "Human Touch"
Jared West, unlike most of his peers, is smart enough to know: you can step on people to get to the top, but that won’t keep you there. Sure, he’s not exactly out there saving the whales or funding entire hospitals, but when it comes to tech moguls, he’s one of the less sh*tty ones. He’ll show up at panels, post about “empowering the people” and “disrupting the system,” and for a second, you almost believe him.
Jared’s got a unique vision for his investment firm, WestTek: he knows that in a world where everyone’s trying to tear each other down, there’s real money in lifting people up. (I know, I know, unrealistic, but just trust me. It's the kind of philanthropy that’s more a tax write-off than a genuine attempt to fix anything. But hey, at least he doesn't mind looking like he gives a damn... when the cameras are on.)
Jared may be a billionaire, but he’s got a soft spot for those hustling beneath him. While he throws a bone to the little guy, it’s not out of charity. It’s just good business. He’s found the sweet spot: empower others while isolating and monopolizing an untapped market that’s full of potential. That’s the game, and he’s playing it better than most.
He’s not as ruthless as some of the others, but don’t be fooled. He’s a man of calculated moves, with just enough empathy to get by and enough ambition to walk a path less traveled by those in Versace.
So, there you have it. The "visionaries" who are shaping our future. The ones who tell us they’re doing it for the greater good while lining their pockets with our data, our money, and ultimately, our freedom.
But hey, don’t worry about it. They’ve got your best interests at heart.
