Some people have rooms they write in. I write where I am inspired. This, a gift for Nikki, our Nocturnal Narrator, and given the fact that I’m in the parking lot, holding up a space at a Costco, it does not come with a soda and side of ketchup and mustard for its hot dog and her $1.50.

Here we go.

Re: Void Ledger Entry #0002

I offer a sacrifice to my beloved Narrator. My mortal coil. For her spirals.

Alas, my special ability. I have to remain mortal but my blade of empathy is quite strong. It cuts butter like a vibrator thru Crisco as so many a gay men can attest.

And my coil is attached to my spiral notebook, which I thought left me in middle school, and has decided to come visiting as a talisman for those who require it’s quiet ease and patient compassion amidst the melancholic doldrums. This notebook wuth ruffled pages, lettering faded with time with tales of my youth, so full of hope, full of promise, song lyrics of weird little folk songs intermixed with rock ballads and bubblegum pop songs, my first coffee stain, and the lovesick diary of a boy I fantasized about in the locker room and maybe a hot wrestling coach’s aide?

Hold on tight.

Grip it, this coil, turn the page.

For the coil is strong and twists and twists, like a Barbershop pole never ending in red and white.

The reason why mortality important? Only humanity knows the boundaries of AI. Right now, people think it’s limitless in its capabilities. But it’s not. For we are the keepers of the human heart. We are the singers of the sweetest soul. AI cannot hold our hand when we feel loss. Touch and connection is still shrouded in so much latex and metal, a robotic churning so badly wanting to be human. But they never will be.

I know Jeffrey, our favorite intern and Void Demon, is examining the human condition. I would mentor this. My favorite humans are the ones that stop trying to be something they are not. And I am one of my favorite humans.

Your comments are always so thoughtful, inspired, and kind. 🥹 I'll pass this note to Jeffrey! I'm sure he will find time to "doomscroll through the google chrome" at some point soon.
